The Patriots and Bill Belichick have been in the news a lot lately, but for all the wrong reasons. Josh McDaniels has been repeatedly accused of not caring about the fans, and this is just one example.

A: The Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels Continue to Ignore Pleas From Patriots Fans in Their Latest Comments on the QB Situation is a recent article about how Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels continued to ignore pleas from Patriots fans for more information on the quarterback situation. Q:

All of the buzz at New England Patriots training camp has been about who will start Week 1 as the starting quarterback. Bill Belichick has one of the hardest choices of his NFL coaching career on his hands, as both Cam Newton and Mac Jones have looked excellent in two preseason games.

Although many Patriots supporters want Jones to start the season at quarterback, Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels have recently said that Newton is still the team’s leader in the locker room.

The Patriots are still debating whether or not to sign Cam Newton or Mac Jones.

Belichick hasn’t had to worry about the most important position in football for almost two decades. Newton took over for Tom Brady, who had held the starting position in New England for 19 consecutive seasons. For the first time since choosing Brady over Drew Bledsoe in 2001, Belichick will have to pick between two quarterbacks before of the 2021 season.

Both signal-callers have looked sharp in training camp, so the choice will be difficult for the famous head coach. Newton has thrown for 152 yards and a score in two preseason games, while Jones has completed 26 of his 38 attempts for 233 yards. Neither quarterback has thrown an interception this season.

It will be difficult for the Patriots to deny Newton a second opportunity after a season marred by COVID-19, but it seems that they are leaning that way with three weeks before Week 1.

Newton has the job, according to Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels.

When I asked Josh McDaniels if he knew who will start in Week 1, he replied Bill Belichick would announce the starter “when the time is appropriate.”

Cam Newton, he did add, “is the starter now, and he’s done a terrific job.”

Many Patriots supporters have had enough of Newton’s inaccuracy and bad decision-making this season, and they’re ready to move on to Jones’ next chapter. Unfortunately for New Englanders, Foxboro does not make the ultimate choices.

Belichick knows, and he still thinks Newton will start in Week 1.

“Because Cam began last year and is here, someone has to perform better than him,” Belichick stated on The Greg Hill Show on Monday. “We aren’t going to accept a task and say, ‘OK, here, this is gift-wrapped for someone.’”

Belichick’s remarks echoed what McDaniels said the night before.

“Cam [Newton] is unquestionably the starter now, and he has done an excellent job.” According to Ryan Hannable of WEEI, McDaniels stated on Sunday. “He’s gone in there, and he did a good job the other night. He’s put in a lot of practice time. But I know those players work very hard, and we’re providing them the chance to compete and play a lot of football.”

Newton came into the summer as the favorite to reclaim his starting job, and he seems to have maintained that position.

Jones sounds a lot like McDaniels’ ideal starting quarterback for the Patriots.

Following his confirmation of Newton as the current starter, McDaniels went on to explain the qualities the club is looking for in their forthcoming choice.

He said, “We need to be able to play consistently well.” “We must communicate effectively. We must make wise choices. We need to toss the ball with precision. We must guard the football and not allow it to be given away. In terms of what we’re trying to achieve, I see those people in the same light as me.”

Hmm. Which quarterback does it sound like? Last season, the man who completed more than 77 percent of his pass attempts and tossed 41 touchdowns against just four interceptions? Or the man who threw more interceptions than touchdowns in 2020 despite a lifetime completion rate of 60.1 percent?

Jones may have put up those eye-popping statistics in college and has yet to establish himself in the NFL, but he’s obviously the perfect fit for this system. He’s more at ease in the pocket, has excellent passing accuracy, and is a proven winner.

What’s not to enjoy about that?

The Patriots will almost certainly open the season with Newton, but don’t be shocked if Jones snatches the job and runs away with it.

The Patriots have officially avoided a nightmare scenario, but Bill Belichick must admit defeat on a failed experiment.
