The Ares update will include changes to warping and docking, which are the two most important features in Dual Universe.
The dual universe roadmap is a document outlining changes to warping and docking coming in the Ares update.
Dual Universe began detailing the improvements intended for the Ares update earlier this week, with the first article covering a stress system for construct cores, shield modifications, and the closing of a handful of PvP exploits. Novaquark has now published a second dev blog, this time focusing on the improvements to warping and docking that will be included in the Ares update.
That’s essentially being bonked with the nerf bat in terms of warping: Warp speed has been decreased, the warp cooldown period has been raised, auto alignment has been reduced so that players may more actively align their ships to a warp vector, and warp drives must now spool up before a warp can be initiated. Furthermore, firing weapons at any time throughout the warp initiation procedure will cause warping to be canceled.
In terms of docking and boarding, in addition to the normal manual method, players will be able to utilize two new automated ways to dock to constructions. There will also be new Lua functions that allow players to define docking rules for their constructions with more flexibility.
The Ares update’s release date has yet to be determined, but the blog concludes by stating that the transfer from PTS to live is “well underway,” so anticipate some news here soonTM.
